As the trade war with China persists, all Americans are feeling the burden of an additional 25 percent tariff. In the Halloween and Costume Industry, we’re no different.
As mostly small, family-owned businesses with a strong commitment to quality and integrity, a 25 percent increase in costs put our entire industry in the U.S. at risk. Some of us will be forced to close our doors; the rest of us are just trying to stay afloat in this tumultuous time. With existing tariffs already in place for some products, we simply cannot absorb this kind of increase in product cost to weather a global trade war.
As an industry, the Halloween and Costume Association has partnered closely with a group called Americans for Free Trade in a nationwide campaign against tariffs. We must show the U.S. government how tariffs are debilitating American businesses like ours.
We’re committed to bringing quality products to market that meet strict federal standards and allow U.S. consumers to have safe, fun celebrations at Halloween and throughout the year. We’ll continue to fight the trade war so we can do this work, and so small businesses across America will once again be able to prosper.
