HCA Very Important Update on Halloween 2020 & Action Requested

The HCA Marketing Task Force and Board of Directors have been hard at work putting together a campaign to ensure Halloween will be celebrated in 2020. This will be a Halloween Like We've Never Seen! We realize this year will be different -- especially depending on where you're located. Research has shown that people want something positive to look forward to and that they want to celebrate Halloween but they need ideas on how to do so -- notably if the traditional ways are not possible because of their local COVID-19 situation. 

We are working with the CDC to develop trick or treating guidelines that will apply to the areas where trick or treating can take place. These guidelines are currently under review by the CDC. In addition, we have developed a Safe House program to establish best practices related to trick or treating. But how do people know if trick or treating is safe? And if they cannot trick or treat, what else can they do? Is it safe to have a small gathering, a larger event outdoors? To solve this problem, we are launching (around Labor Day) a microsite, that will be the go-to on how to celebrate safely no matter where you're located. We are taking a recognized risk level map sourced by a reputable website and layering on top different ways to celebrate depending on your risk level based on your location. For example, if you're in a Red Risk Level, recommendations would include Zoom parties, porch pics, dress for dinner, costume TikToks, themed room scavenger hunt, indoor candy stations, Halloween karaoke, etc. with full details on how to do each. 

We are building this great resource that will inform consumers/public on how to celebrate but we will need help in creating awareness. We will be launching a grassroots campaign focused on social media but potentially other methods as well. Everyone that loves Halloween can help spread this message. Please see the attached PDF and feel free to share with your retailers, other manufacturers, bloggers, licensors and anyone with an interest in making Halloween 2020 a success. 

Since there has already a lot of questions by the public as to what's going on with Halloween this year, we have issued a press release and also posted a message on our consumer website explaining that Halloween 2020 is going to happen --  just a bit differently and to stay tuned for details. 

We are working our magic to launch some national contests as well as at least one big PR event to help promote this initiative. The current frontrunner is a live streaming event call MASKeraid to raise money for COVID-19 aid and promote Halloween 2020 with the help of celebrities. We have also developed relationships with the National Retail Federation and National Confectioners Association and will be doing some cross-promotion with those groups. We are circling back with many large brands that have indicated interest a few weeks back and we expect additional partnerships to come together and be announced soon. 

Now, more than ever, we need to come together and work together to promote the safe celebration of Halloween 2020.
