Halloween & Costume Association Shares Surprising Insights from National Poll Amid Rising Inflation MT LAUREL, NJ (October 23,
2024) –
The Halloween & Costume Association (HCA) has commissioned a national
online survey conducted by The Harris Poll among more than 2,000 U.S. adults.
The results reveal some eerily fascinating insights into how Americans are
gearing up for this year’s Halloween festivities. Haunted by Inflation: More than half of Americans
Halloween plans are “haunted” by the looming specter of rising costs, with 53%
saying rising costs will impact their plans this year. Inflation seems to be
casting a chilling spell over holiday fun for some, with 26% of Americans saying
they plan to spend less on Halloween compared to last year. Price Reigns Supreme: When it comes to
selecting Halloween costumes, 32% of Americans say price is one of the most influencing
factors on their choice. Halloween's Undying Spirit: Halloween has always
been about embracing the mysterious, and 2024 is no exception. Fans of the
holiday can conjure up creative ways to keep the magic alive—whether it’s
through DIY costumes, enchanting decorations, or celebrating within tighter
budgets. Impact on Industry Sales: The Halloween
industry had a spellbinding year in 2023, with sales soaring to a record $10.6 billion. For 2024, total planned spending is projected to reach $11.6 billion. However, the survey
suggests that the pinch of inflation causing lower budgets for some could
affect Halloween sales this year. While excitement remains strong (31% are more
excited about Halloween than last year, and 37% feel just as excited), there
may be some tweaks to spending habits as the countdown to October 31st draws
near. The HCA has countless
